Just like the radio always has me feeling like mariah carey, pinterest always has me feeling like Martha Stewart! about 2 weeks before my son’s FIRST birthday I decided maybe I should plan a party (poor 3rd child). I quickly went to pinterest to help my sleep deprived mind come up with a theme! Within 2 minutes I realized boys have the WORST birthday themes but a LUMBERJACK THEME seemed GENIUS and my only option outside of baseball/football (which he can’t even lift yet, an ax makes way more sense). Below is the photo that started it all (as i’m writing this my son just asked “wow those are CUTE why didn’t we get that stuff for carters birthday?!” Sigh……)
I LOVE shopping local, since i am a small business owner myself, so i went to facebook for suggestions on local cake and cookie decorators and landed on the jackpot! After 3 friends suggested Lisa i reached out to her ,1 week before the party, and she agreed to help! If you live in phx and need someone, you can thank me later! I sent her my pinterest pics and she turned them into reality. I also came up with a cake in my head and she made it happen (see below)
I also saw the most amazing Wood cupcake stand on pinterest and luckily enough have a crazy talented brother who can make just about anything out of wood! Thank you Carter Birch for making the best tiered server!
The one thing i kept seeing which i LOVED the concept of was a HOT COCOA BAR!! This was by far my favorite part of the party! TIP- pour cocoa mix in first and then add milk or you will be stirring FOREVER (if you already knew that then just read ahead haha!) I went to Home Goods ( i look for any opportunity to go there 🙂 and found Salted caramel hot chocolate, peppermint, peppermint crumbs, chocolate cocoa wafers, small plastic containers for marshmellows, and tiny Chocolate spoons for stirring! My grand total was $35! The three burner crock pot i got from target during black friday sale and i LOVE it for dips also!
Pretzel sticks with White Chocolate Melts and dark chocolate for the lines! Refrigerate the sticks in between each layer or it will become a really unappetizing brown stick (pictured below)
THis is what to AVOID doing 😉
Overall the lumberjack theme was a fun idea for a first birthday! I would probably plan a little earlier next time and also invite a few more kids since the adults were not as excited about the hot chocolate bar as I was! “No i didn’t use almond milk”, “yes i do have wine and beer available!” (eye roll, lesson learned haha!)
Happy birthday bugaboo we love you SOOOOO much and can’t believe how fast your first year has flown by! Even though ive been telling people you are 4 months old so they think i look AMAZING for just having had a baby 😉 i think the secret is out now!!
